I’m seeing this on my phone, so I’m sure I’m not getting the full impact, but what a classic image! Looks very 19th century – either a painting of the Hudson Valley School without the mountains, or perhaps it’s of a more exotic place like the Nile River.

When I first opened this, I did not look at the title and assumed it was from some tropical place only to find it is from my very own Hudson Valley! The variations in sky color and the brown water make me wonder if it was taken recently after some of the heavy rains we have had made the river brown up here near Kingston from all the runoff from its tributaries? I also wonder if the sky tones have anything to do with the fires up in Canada. Intriguing.
so the Hudson can be such quiet waters. those colors are great, shades of turquoise and orange, blending into each other with great subtleties. once I saw a photograph of the Coney Island beach by Meyerowitz and – I’m not running comparisons here, understand me well – the delicate yet wide range of tones of both photos are equally striking.
