Your Taxi Toplights of Tokyo and Kyoto, Flickr slide show is incredible. I suppose if it’s lit they are available just as here but they seem far more creative than just a “reflection” of the license plate.

Yes a great series. I like the fact that the mood is always the same, with the colorful out-of-focus background of other lit signs.
