During Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter, residents of Antigua, Guatemala, create dozens of alfombras (carpets made of dyed sawdust, flowers, pine needles or vegetables) on the cobblestone streets. Huge religious floats, weighing as much as a ton, are carried on the shoulders of processioners who then march over the alfombras.
